Introduction
CuproShield Cu-18(H) is a specialized protective agent for copper and copper alloys. It belongs to a water-soluble process, and it is a nanotechnology product. This protective agent forms a colorless transparent film on the surface of copper and copper alloys, with a thickness of several nanometers. It can prevent corrosion of workpieces by water, seawater, atmosphere, oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, and some organic vapors. It is mainly used for the protection of copper and copper alloys in indoor environments.
Process Characteristics
1. The process operation is simple. Immerse the thoroughly cleaned workpiece in the working fluid to form an effective protective film on the surface of the workpiece.
2. This is a water soluble process; it is safe and environmentally friendly.
3. The protective film does not affect the soldering performance of the copper layer and virtually does not change the contact resistance, making it suitable for protecting electronic components and copper layers on circuit boards.
4. The protective film has high temperature resistance and can be baked at 220℃ for 10-15 minutes without discoloration.
5. Depending on the substrate, it can achieve three reflow soldering cycles.
6. It is resistant to organic solvents, acid, and alkali.
7. Fingerprints can be erased with alcohol.
Composition of Plating Solution and Process Flow
CuproShield Cu-18(H) is easy to operate; simply dilute the concentrated solution in pure water to use.
Polishing and Cleaning Process for Copper Parts:
1. Copper plating
2. Water washing (2 times)
3. Acid washing and polishing
4. Water washing (3 times)
5. Immersion in protective agent (pay attention to temperature and time; too short of time adversely affects the protective effect; too long of time is not an issue)
6. Warm water washing (very important)
7. Water washing (6 times - the protective effect is closely related to water washing; try to wash as cleanly as possible)
8. Warm water washing (temperature controlled at 60-70℃ for less than 5 seconds)
9. Spin drying or blow drying
10. Baking at 120℃ (20-40 minutes - the time depends on the thickness of the copper; high thickness requires a longer amount of time, while low thickness requires a shorter amount of time)
11. Inspection and storage
Copper Plating Product Protection Process:
1. Copper plating
2. Water washing (3 times)
3. Cathodic electrolysis (sodium hydroxide 20-40g/L, CU-2 activator 5ml/L, current 0.4-0.8ASD)
4. Water washing (3 times)
5. Activation (sulfuric acid 2-4%, CU-2 activator 5ml/L)
6. Water washing (3 times)
7. Immersion in protective agent (pay attention to temperature and time; too short of time adversely affects the protection effect; too long of time is not an issue)
8. Warm water washing (very important)
9. Water washing (6 times - the protection effect is closely related to water washing; try to wash as cleanly as possible)
10. Warm water washing (temperature controlled at 60-70℃ for less than 5 seconds)
11. Spin drying or blow drying
12. Baking at 120℃ (20-40 minutes - the time depends on the thickness of the copper; high thickness requires a longer amount of time, while low thickness requires a shorter amount of time)
13. Inspection and storage
If the product protection requirements are high, it is recommended to use silver protection for the water cutting treatment after immersion in the copper protective agent. Doing this will improve the protective effect by 10-20%.
Operating Conditions
Operating Parameter | Unit | Range |
CuproShield Cu-18(H) | % | 5 - 20 |
CuproShield Cu-18(H) Low Concentration | % | 0.5 - 5.0 |
Temperature | ℃ | 45 - 50 |
Time | Seconds | 30 - 180 |
Equipment
1. Use stainless steel grooves, glass grooves, grooves lined with rubber, or polypropylene.
2. Use quartz, porcelain, stainless steel heating tubes, or water bath heating.
3. Workpieces can be loaded using baskets, rollers, or hanging tools.
Preparation and Operation of Tank Solution
1. Thoroughly clean the work tank.
2. Add 70% volume of pure water to the tank, and adjust the temperature to the operating temperature.
3. Melt CuproShield Cu-18(H) in a hot water bath before use.
4. Add the required amount of CuproShield Cu-18(H) while stirring.
5. Add pure water to the working liquid level and continue to stir evenly.
6. Adjust the working temperature of the solution.
7. Immerse the workpiece (that has been thoroughly cleaned and kept moist) into the working fluid for processing.
8. Clean the processed workpiece with running water.
9. Dry the workpiece with stable hot air without leaving any water stains.
10. Use 120℃ baking aging treatment for 20-40 minutes.
Solution Maintenance
1. Prevent copper, oil stains, wax, alkaline, and acidic washing liquids from contaminating the working fluid; otherwise, it will weaken the protective treatment effect of the solution.
2. During use, CuproShield Cu-18(H) may decompose and be lost. CuproShield Cu-18(H) concentrate should be added through analysis to compensate for this loss.
Usage Notes
1. If a filter is added to the copper protection cylinder, the service life and effect will be greatly improved.
2. If the parts are complex and have many blind holes, it is recommended to add a high-pressure water gun or to use ultrasonic cleaning before immersion in the copper protective agent. This will greatly improve the protection effect.
3. Extreme objects will reverse, and the protective effect of this copper protectant is very good. However, it is difficult to remove the conventional ones. Our company suggests a rework process (rework of products that require plating):
a) Electrolytic degreasing
b) Chemical polishing
c) Soaking in water for 10-20 seconds
d) Adding copper plating
e) Post-treatment
Environmental Protection
The solution and its washing water must be treated and discharged according to national and local regulations.
