Introduction
SterlingShield WS-II, an improved version of SterlingShield WS, is a water base solution which provides exceptional protection for silver / silver alloy and gold / gold alloy surfaces. Tarnish resistance, anti-sulfide ability, and wear resistance are all improved significantly after coating with SterlingShield WS-II.
Properties
● A protective ultra-thin film is formed after the workpiece parts are immersed in the SterlingShield WS-II solution at 55ºC for 0.5 to 5 minutes.
● The protective film dramatically improves tarnish and wear resistance, while having no negative effects on contact resistance and solderability
● Short-term heat treatment of 200ºC will not affect the protective properties of the ultra-thin film.
● Workpieces will not have water stains after SterlingShield WS-II treatment.
● SterlingShield WS-II has a long bath life.
Composition of Plating Solution
To use SterlingShield WS-II, simply dissolved it in heated water (55ºC). The solution is then ready to be used.
Operating Conditions
Parameter | Unit | Range | Optimal |
SterlingShield WS-II | mL/L | 25 - 50 | 50 |
Temperature | ℃ | 50 - 55 | 55 |
Immersion Time | Minutes | 0.5 - 4.0 | 2.0 |
Note: Keep the bath temperature of the first water rinse at slightly above 50oC in order to maintain good cosmetic appearances. Otherwise some haze residue can be observed.
Solution Preparation
Note: Before using SterlingShield WS-II, shake its container for 1 minute after SterlingShield WS-II is immersed at a temperature of 50ºC.
1. Thoroughly clean the work tank.
2. Add 75% volume DI water and elevate the temperature to 50 to 55ºC.
3. Add SterlingShield WS, and stir to form a homogeneous solution.
4. Add water to the desired level, and stir the working solution for at least 1 minute.
5. Adjust the working temperature to 50 to 55ºC
