SterlingShield AGS

Column:Silver Protective Agent

Brief Introduction

SterlingShield AGS is a solvent free water soluble process specifically used for silver protection. The protective layer formed on the surface of the silver will greatly improve its resistance to sulfurization and wear.

Process Characteristics

1. The process operation is simple. By immersing the workpiece in the working fluid, a chemical reaction can occur to form an effective protective film.
2. The process does not contain organic solvents. The protective layer is non-toxic and non-irritating, improving safety and environmental protection.
3. The product does not have an unpleasant odor.
4. The protective layer virtually does not change the contact resistance or weldability of the silver layer.
5. Short-term heat treatment (below 300ºC) has little effect on the performance of the protective layer.
6. The groove lasts for a long time.
7. The protective layer provides better resistance to sulfurization and wear.

Composition of Plating Solution

To use SterlingShield AGS, simply dilute the concentrated solution in hot pure water. Note that the SterlingShield AGS stock solution should be heated to 50-60℃ and shaken well prior to use.

Process Flow

1. Silver plating
2. Water washing (3 times)
3. Protective agent immersion
4. Hot water washing at 40 to 50℃ (2 times)
5. Water washing at 25 to 40℃
6. Shake drying
7. Bake drying at 120℃
Note: Do not use electrolytic protection again; otherwise, the effectiveness of this protective agent will be greatly reduced.

Solution Maintenance

The working fluid will stratify if it is cooled or usage is stopped for a period of time. It will return to normal after heating. Regularly supplement evaporation losses with pure water. To achieve the desired protective effect, please maintain SterlingShield AGS at 100% working concentration, which can be controlled by analytical methods.

Solution Preparation

Note: Before using SterlingShield AGS, its container must be shaken thoroughly to ensure uniformity of the product.
1. Thoroughly clean the work tank.
2. Add 75% volume of pure water and heat it to operating temperature.
3. Add SterlingShield AGS while stirring and mixing evenly.
4. Add pure water to the standard volume and stir evenly.
5. Adjust the solution to the working temperature.
6. The solution is ready to be used.

Equipment

Container: PP plastic
Ventilation: Required
Heating: PTFE class
Note: The working tank needs to be equipped with overflow, a circulating pump, and a heating system. When stopping production, the work tank should be covered and the circulation pump should be kept on.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Causes

Solutions

Traces or stripes are present

Poor cleaning of workpieces

Ensure that all workpieces entering the SterlingShield AGS solution have been thoroughly cleaned.

Wash tank is contaminated

Replace or increase the water flow rate with warm water washing.

Workpieces cannot pass anti-corrosion testing

Incorrect SterlingShield AGS concentration

Adjust SterlingShield AGS to the standard concentration.

Incorrect temperature

Adjust the temperature to 45ºC.

Insufficient immersion time

Increase the immersion time.

Incorrect washing temperature

Adjust the washing temperature.
