Introduction
SterlingShield NT-8203 is a solvent-free water-soluble process specifically used for silver and gold plating protection. The protective layer formed on the surface of gold and silver will be more effective in improving their sulfur resistance, wear resistance, and salt spray resistance. It can also be used in electrolytic protection processes to effectively prevent oxidation and discoloration of gold, silver, and silver alloys.
Process Characteristics
1. The process operation is simple. By immersing the workpiece in the working fluid, a chemical reaction can occur to form an effective protective film.
2. The process does not contain organic solvents, and the formed protective layer is non-toxic and non-irritating, improving safety and environmental protection.
3. The product has no odor.
4. The protective layer virtually does not affect the contact resistance and weldability of the coating.
5. Short term heat treatment (below 300ºC) has negligible effect on the performance of the protective layer.
6. The usage time of the slot is long.
7. The sulfur resistance, wear resistance, and salt spray resistance are all improved.
Composition of Plating Solution
To use SterlingShield NT-8203, simply dilute the concentrated solution in hot pure water. Note that the original solution of SterlingShield NT-8203 should be heated (to 50℃ to 60℃), melted, and shaken well.
Operating Conditions
Operating Parameter | Unit | Range | Recommended |
SterlingShield NT-8203 | mL/L | 20-50 | 50 |
Conductive Salt D2S (used when cathodic electrolysis is required) | mL/L | 40-60 | 50 |
Temperature | oC | 55-65 | 60 |
Time | min | 0.2~4.0 | 2.0 |
(Graphite) Cathode Electrolysis Voltage | V | 8 | 8 |
Process Flow
1. Electroplating
2. Water washing (3 times)
3. Immersion in protective agent
4. Warm water washing (30℃ to 50℃, depending on appearance)
5. Water washing (2 times)
6. Spin drying
7. Drying (at 80℃).
Supplement of Solution
The working fluid will stratify if cooled for a period of time or stopped for a slightly longer period of time. Heating the fluid will return it to normal. Regularly supplement water evaporation losses with pure water. Maintain SterlingShield NT-8203 at 100% working concentration to achieve the desired protective effect.
Solution Preparation
Before using SterlingShield NT-8203, the container must be shaken thoroughly to ensure uniformity of the product.
1. Clean the work tank thoroughly.
2. Add 75% volume of pure water and heat to operating temperature.
3. Add SterlingShield NT-8203 while stirring and mix evenly.
4. Add pure water to the standard volume and stir evenly.
5. Adjust the solution to the working temperature.
6. It is ready to be used.
Equipment
Slot: PP, plastic
Ventilation: required
Heating: PTFE class
Note: The working tank needs to be equipped with overflow, a circulating pump, and heating system. When stopping production, the work tank needs to be covered with protection, and the circulation pump should be kept on.
