NiShield Ni-59

Column:Nickel Protective Agent

Introduction

NiShield Ni-59 is a specialized protector for nickel and nickel alloys. The protective agent forms a colorless transparent film on the surface of nickel and nickel alloys, and it has a thickness of several nanometers. It can prevent corrosion of workpieces by water, seawater, atmosphere, oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, and some organic vapors. NiShield Ni-59 is mainly used for the protection of nickel and nickel alloys in indoor environments.

Process Characteristics

1. The process operation is simple and can be used at room temperature. Simply immerse the cleaned workpiece in the working fluid to form an effective protective film on the surface of the workpiece.

2. The protective film does not affect the welding performance of the nickel layer and does not change the contact resistance. It is suitable for protecting electroplated nickel layers and chemical nickel nickel layers.

3. The protective film has stable contact resistance. It can maintain the electrical contact impedance upon completion of electroplating without causing an increase in impedance due to oxidation.

4. The protective film promotes welding ability. After being protected by NiShield Ni59, the soldering ability will not decrease due to aging.

5. Due to the lubricating effect of NiShield Ni-59, it reduces insertion and extraction forces, increases insertion and extraction uses, and makes the coating feel more wear-resistant.

6. Applying NiShield Ni-59 can improve specifications (e.g. increasing the value from 3μ to 6-10μ), thereby saving metal costs.

7. The protective film improves the success rate of electroplating. Since the electroplated layer is not easily oxidized after sealing and NiShield Ni-59 can be easily washed away by general electrolytic degreasers, the failure rate of electroplating rework is greatly reduced.

8. The protective film provides excellent corrosion resistance. The ordinary electroplating salt spray test can be easily passed for 48 hours, and the coating can be thickened appropriately to pass the salt spray test for more than 72 hours.

9. The protective film has a high tolerance for impurities. Introducing various impurities does not affect the protective performance.

10. There is no need to reverse the groove; simply add it regularly to minimize the cost of use.

11. The protected workpiece is hydrophobic, non-greasy, and has no oil on the surface.

12. After electroplating and cleaning, it is possible to perform sealing treatment directly without baking and without the need for significant modifications to equipment and processes.

13. No heating is required during the process. During high-speed production, there is no need to send the materials to the oven for secondary baking, which saves energy and manpower.

14. NiShield Ni-59 is environmentally friendly and safe, and it is paired with environmentally friendly diluents that are non-combustible and odorless.

Composition of Plating Solution and Process Flow

The application of the nickel protective agent uses the original solution and the addition of diluents to prevent high concentration after volatilization.

Technological Process:

1. Continuous Electroplating:

a) Electroplating

b) Water washing (several times)

c) Blowing

d) NiShield Ni-59 application

e) Blowing

f) Drying

2. Roll Plating:

a) Electroplating

b) Water washing (several times)

c) Dehydration

d) NiShield Ni-59 application

e) Unsealing agent (recycling)

f) Drying

3. Hanging Plating

a) Electroplating

b) Water washing (several times)

c) Cutting water

d) NiShield Ni-59 application

e) Drying

Drying: First use a wind knife to blow down on the solution to reduce carryover; then use cold air to dry it. Natural drying is also possible.

Mixing Method: It is recommended to operate a still. If a pump is used, it is recommended to choose a diluent with low volatility, and the number of air knives must be increased. Strong blowing pressure ensures the dryness of the finished product.

Defective Plated Parts

If there are defective plated parts, the protective film can be removed by electrolysis.

Supplementation and Maintenance of Solution

Pay attention to regularly removing impurities. During use NiShield Ni-59 may cause wear and tear. If the protective tank is frequently used, only the protective agent solution needs to be replenished. When stopping production, pay attention to covering it to prevent evaporation. If there is long term non use, it is necessary to replenish the diluent to the working state before reuse.

Diluent Supplement:

Due to the evaporation of the diluent, the concentration of NiShield Ni-59 will increase. Therefore diluent supplementation is needed to adjust the concentration.

The concentration can be determined using the colorimetric method, as follows: Take a sample and place it in a glass conical flask to dilute it by comparing the color with the original preparation solution (the original preparation solution is relatively light)

Solution Maintenance:

1. When dust or other impurities are introduced into the solution, it can be filtered out through a very fine filter or filter paper before use. The concentration must then be adjusted again after filtration.

2. When water is added to the protective agent, it will automatically sink to the bottom of the tank and gather together. Simply drain to separate the water.

Equipment

1. Use stainless steel grooves, glass grooves, or grooves lined with rubber or polypropylene. Stainless steel grooves are recommended.

2. Workpieces can be loaded using baskets, rollers, or hanging tools.

Stratification/Separation of Impurity Water Layers

It is recommended to use the method shown in the below figure for the stratification of impurity water layers. The nickel plating solution brought in will automatically sink to the bottom of the container with a discharge valve. Simply drain this part of the solution.

Environmental Protection

The solution and its washing water must be treated and discharged according to national and local regulations.
